Description
The rifle range is where you would come to shoot any legal rifle. There are about 40 shooting benches and about 15 prone positions under a covered firing line. Position shooting, standing, sitting, kneeling and prone, may also be done from the spaces between the benches. Our newer benches have adjustable seats to accommodate different sized people including women and kids. There are target holders at 50 and 100 yards. Metal plates and gong type targets are available from 200 through 440 yards. There is no charge to use this range.
What to do
Please bring your rifles to the firing line, as transported according to state law, unloaded and in a case. Every person that's going to be firing is asked to sign our log book. The log book is our head count and your signature is the only fee we charge. Each signature in the log book acts as a signature on a petition to keep the range open. In the event you are stopped by law enforcement on your way home, your signature is also proof that you came to the range. Locate any unused bench and place your rifle case on the bench. Remove your rifle from the case maintaining the muzzle of the rifle down range. Immediately lock open the action of the rifle(s), keeping the muzzle down range at all times. At no time should the muzzle of any rifle break 45 degrees from downrange, even if the rifle is unloaded. Remember that the only SAFE firearm is one that is shown as clear and unloaded. Do NOT leave any loaded firearms unattended at the bench. Load only when ready to fire. Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until you've acquired your target in your sights.
Range Commands
Cease fires to change targets are normally called anywhere from 25 to 30 minutes per shooting session. Range commands are:
-
Complete your firing - finish up the ammunition that's already loaded in your firearm
-
Clear and unload your firearm
-
Place it on the bench with the action open and chamber visible from the rear
-
Pick up from your bench any supplies needed to repair your target - stapler, targets, tape, etc.
-
Step behind the yellow line
-
Cease fire - do NOT pull the trigger once this command is given.
-
Clear and unload your firearm immediately
-
Place it on the bench with the action open and chamber visible from the rear
-
Pick up from your bench supplies needed to repair your target - stapler, targets, tape, etc.
-
Step behind the yellow line
-
The line is safe, you may go forward - with your target supplies already in hand, you may tend to your target
-
After you've repaired/replaced your target, stand behind the yellow line
-
The line is hot - you may approach your bench, handle firearms and commence firing
-
Cease Fire may be called at anytime, not only when it is time to change targets. Anyone may call Cease Fire if they feel there is any unsafe condition
What to bring
-
Target Frame Required - See link below for plans
-
Targets or target centers (paper targets)
-
Staple gun (not the kind to staple papers together)
-
Eye protection (sunglasses and prescription glasses okay)
-
Ear protection (plugs, or muffs, or plugs and muffs)
-
Firearm
-
Ammunition that matches the firearm
-
Not required but highly recommended is a spotting scope. .22 and .30 caliber bullet holes are mighty hard to see at 50 yards without one. If you require a steady rest or sand bags, you should also bring your own.

Other notes
-
Shoot only at your own target and other designated targets
-
No shooting of loose objects (golf balls, rocks and the like)
-
Load no more than 5 rounds in a magazine - excluded is the M1 Garand 8 round clip
-
No rapid firing or shooting from the hip
Shotguns
Shotguns may be function fired at this range. Birdshot and buckshot may be fired into the ground at 35 yards and further but not at 50 yards where the target holders are. Do not shoot in the direction of any target frame. Bird shot and buckshot will ricochet and damage the wood frames. You may construct and bring your own frame to pattern shot shells or slugs.
Handguns
Long-range type handguns may be fired on this range providing the handgun is equipped with a scope. Handguns shooting at paper targets must be shot from the benchrest position.
